Herreninsel, the largest of the three islands in Lake Chiemsee, became world famous in 1878 when the fairy-tale king Ludwig II built Herrenchiemsee Palace there. For this reason, it has been an official UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2025.
The architecture of the castle was modeled on the palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV, in Versailles. You can take a steamboat from Chiemsee to the island and visit the castle, the parks on the island, and the island museum. We recommend also visiting Fraueninsel on a day trip.
The Frauenwoerth monastery is located on Fraueninsel and can look back on a long history dating back to its foundation in 782. The beautifully landscaped gardens and the idyllic old fishing villages invite visitors to take a stroll around the island.
Hohenaschau Castle is the "heart" of art and culture in the Priental valley. Adjacent to it is the Priental Museum with the "Burgladerl" and the gallery in the festival hall grounds. Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, and, of course, Müllner Peter bring the baroque setting of the famous Preysing Hall to life.
The idyllically situated Seeon Monastery, formerly a center for book illumination, offers visitors year-round access to its rooms, as well as a variety of cultural events and exhibitions.
A Gothic castle chapel and a Renaissance arcaded courtyard at Amerang Castle invite visitors to linger. The castle's long tradition as a cultural meeting place provides an extraordinary setting for outstanding events.
Not only is it the world's longest castle, Burghausen also offers extra-long enjoyment with an extra-wide range of attractions, from culture to gastronomy.
Experience the many facets of Burghausen and enjoy the wide range of impressions and moments in a town of contrasts and similarities, of the everyday and the extraordinary... Burghausen is one of Bavaria's special treasures. The listed old town, the world's longest castle complex, and the Salzach river form an attractive ensemble. We look forward to your visit.
